My 10-second review of Up. Sweet, funny, and don't forget to bring tissues. I haven't cried openly at the movies since I don't know when. It might be too slow for younger kids (under 4), but both my school-age kids liked it. Thumbs up.

Oh hey guys! Today is my fifth anniversary on LJ. I feel like I should have something momentous to say, but mostly I just want to thank everyone for their fics, arts, meta, silliness, picspams, twitterposts, rants, squees etc.

Okay, I've never done this before. I'm going to take prompts, and I'll write you a drabble or ficlet. Bleach, Harry Potter or Fullmetal Alchemist.

Anyone else watching The Fashion Show? I'm not ready to give up on it, but I'm not feeling the love either. I miss Tim Gunn. I miss Project Runway.

I love my family. They made me a huge breakfast this morning, a homemade chocolate pie for later and took me to Star Trek.

Verdict: Star Trek = Made of Win. And I say this a someone who is not a fan of the original series, but probably has seen every episode at one time or another thanks to my college roommate and the Detroit TV station who aired Star Trek everyday at 6 pm. (Incidentally, I'm curious how she feels about this movie. She had serious fandom rage issues about the spin-off series.)

I do have one question, though. ( Spoilers )

I know there hasn't been a significant post from me in a while. Let's see... What have I been up to...
• Writer's block. I'm suffering from a horrible case of it. I even tried to write a ficlet this weekend to no avail. I also can't seem to focus on ANYTHING.
• My toilet overflowed this morning and no one noticed it until water started streaming through the ceiling. Ick, and now I have a big crack in my ceiling.
• I've started to read Naruto. I'm not sure I get what all the hype is about, but I'm only on volume 4... although I fell in love with Bleach in the very first chapter. Still, I'm sufficiently interested to keep reading, so we'll see.
• Still looking for a job...

I've got a dreamwidth account. Same name: mizbean. I friended (or whatever the local jargon is) a few people last night before I went to bed, but honestly I have no idea what I'm going to do with this account. Most likely I'll just post fic there and use it to read other people's journals. I haven't updated my insane journal account in over a year, so I don't have a good track record managing multiple journals. Anyway, I haven't set it up proper-like with icons and stuff. That will probably be this weekend's project.

My car is making bad, funny noises. I really can't afford a large car repair bill right now:(((

Okay, I've got myself sucked into another manga. At the urging of a few on my flist I started reading Fullmetal Alchemist a few weeks ago. Now I can't put down. First Bleach, now FMA. Why is manga so addictive?

Of course, this coincides nicely with the new production of FMA that premiered this week, which I really wish I could squee more about, but I couldn't get the episode to run properly on my computer. The audio runs fine, but the video keeps pooping out, which makes reading the subtitles a wee bit difficult. What I saw looked really cool though, but I think I'm going to have to wait for the officially released version that's going to be running on Funimation in two days. Sadness.

Still, since I'm only on chapter 42 of the manga, I have PLENTY to keep me busy in the meantime.

Oh! I had no idea that the voice actor who voices Toshiro in Bleach also voices Ed. So has this voice actor cornered the market on voicing shrimpy characters or what?:D

It's spring break, which means the kids are home from school, which also means I can sleep in everyday this week. I'm still in my jammies. Awesome.

Good grief.

I think I said this once before. Life on Mars is a really interesting show. I'm sad it's getting cancelled.

ETA: I'm really sad that Live on Mars is getting canceled.

I happened to be at Home Depot today buying some plumbing supplies, and I saw that they were setting up their outside garden center. Between that and the fact that it is currently 72 degrees outside, I started thinking about my gardening habits.

I always start the year full of expectation. I clean up all the dead leaves, go to the nursery, pick out new plants... I always buy way more than I need. Lovingly tend to the them through May and June and then... Maybe the weather gets too hot and I forget to water. Or I start spending my weekends elsewhere, like up in Wisconsin or on a camping trip or at the beach. My flowers turn brown and wither. My tomato plants get so huge they start to choke out the rest of the plants. (My garden is also small, and did I also mention I always buy way more plants than I need?) I will also forget, come September, to pick the rest of the ripe tomatoes before the first frost hits.

But right now, everything looks so full of promise.

I woke up feeling all kinds of blue this morning, but I'm starting to feel better. I think not having a job is taking its toll. I hate not working. I like to be busy. OTOH, I can't say I've accomplished a lot with my time off except for sending out resumes that nobody seems to be reading. Nice. I just depressed myself all over again.

I'm going to admit I don't quite get Twitter, but all the cool kids Tom Felton are doing it. (And really, he is quite adorkable. He so not Draco Malfoy, which I find terribly endearing. I mean he watches Turner & Hooch and eats pizza in bed and talks about cookies... ♥)

Anyway, I've had a few people friend me over there in the last two days, so I thought I should publicly announce mizbean is on Twitter!

I had a very nice, relaxing weekend. I only left the house once: to run to the grocery store to buy ice cream. However, my daughter, who has been suffering from the sniffles and a sore throat (hence, the ice cream), has given me her cold. I feel like crap. My nose won't stop running. Argh!!

I had lunch with the lovely ninja_tech and floppycorpse last weekend, and we got to talking about Bleach and my adventures with trying to find fic in a new fandom that suit my taste. Surely, I'm not the first person to bemoan that other fandoms don't have as prolific or talented writers as HP, and it's not lost on me that half of these writers also write HP. Anyway, ninja_tech asked me for some recs, so here they are: (minor spoilers within)

Summary (mine): Ichigo gets hit by a car and dies. This is what happens after he wakes up in Soul Society.
My notes: Short but satisfying fic, and I'm completely in love with the idea of Ichigo becoming a captain in the Gotei-13.

My notes: Beautifully written, moving fic that takes place after the Winter War. My only complaint is that it ended.

And now to get back to HP. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that hp_springsmut started posting today. (Is it March already?) Springsmut has always been one of my favorite fests to follow. Yay, for rare pairs.
